Closer Fallout

Like any MLB Season, closers come and go. Here’s a look at closers who will be going sooner than what you think.

Madson – The Angels’ investment in Madson this off-season didn’t turn out too well. Here already had surgey on his elbow, and it still hurts him. Frieri will remain the closer for the rest of the year.

Cook – Although he’s very good, he’s better at the setup role. I don’t expect it to be too long before Dr. Doolittle takes over the role.

Rondon – Detroit is a mess with their closer situation. Rondon can sure throw the ball hard, but he can also throw a lot of balls. It’s going to be a closer-by-committee before too long in Detroit.

Axford – He had a major meltdown last year and couldn’t recover from whatever it was. I’m not sure why they’re still using him in this role, but I don’t think it’ll last too long. My prediction: He’ll have lost before Summer.

Marmol – Read the above “Axford.” Fujikawa is hanging in the looms waiting to take over the job if Marmol is traded, or loses the job.

League – The LA Dodgers went out and got League for a reason. That reason? Because they want a closer. Jansen can every bit be that closer, but I don’t think the Dodgers want to take the risk with Jansen. If League does get blown up multiple times this year, it’s all Jansen’s to lose.

Cishek – Wasn’t too convinced on him last year. I still won’t touch him with an 8′ foot pole. I don’t necessarily like any RP in Miami, but Dunn looks like the backup to Cishek.

Parnell – It’s his position to lose, which I think he will. Brandon Lyon will then take the reigns.

Soriano – May miss time because of a tooth-ache? Mickey Mantle was playing with a hole in his hip and perhaps a torn ACL, and Soriano may miss time due to a tooth-ache?

Street – He’ll get you around 20-some saves this season. He’ll also get you a trip to the DL.

Betancourt – The 37 year old is the still the closer, but he’s also 37. Next in line will be matchup based with Brothers/Lopez
