Heat and Nets to Wear Nickname Jerseys

Heat and Nets to Wear Nickname Jerseys

On Friday, the Brooklyn Nets and Miami Heat will debut the “Nickname Jerseys” with a different nickname on the back of each jersey. Some of them are creative, some are head-scratchers … but it’s a marketing attempt that will surely bring in some extra cash. Let’s take a glance at what both teams have going on:

Miami Heat:

Ray Allen: “J. Shuttlesworth”
Chris Andersen: “Birdman”
Joel Anthony: “Doc”
Shane Battier: “Battle”
Michael Beasley: “B Easy”
Chris Bosh: “CB”
Mario Chalmers: “Rio”
Norris Cole: “Cole Train”
Udonis Haslem: “UD”
LeBron James: “King James”
James Jones: “JJ”
Rashard Lewis: “Sweet Lew”
Roger Mason Jr.: “MoneyMase”
Greg Oden: “G.O.”
Dwyane Wade: “D.Wade”

Brooklyn Nets:

Reggie Evans: “Joker”
Kevin Garnett: “The Big Ticket”
Joe Johnson: “JJ”
Andrei Kirilenko: “Кириленко”
Brook Lopez: “Brooklyn”
Paul Pierce: “Truth”
Mason Plumlee: “Plums”
Jason Terry: “Jet”
Deron Williams: “D-Will”

If you’re a sports-fan, expect the NBA to be the only association to run with this and a ton of jokes to follow. It will be strange seeing the “Truth” on the back of a Brooklyn jersey instead of a Celtics one and it will be tough getting past the thought of a Kenny Powers/Ashley Schaeffer scene from Eastbound and Down when seeing Mason Plumlee as “Plums” – all in all, it’s creative and fun and will bring interest to a Nets game that would have otherwise been a channel turner.
