1. Jameis Winston, QB, Florida State
2013 Stats: 4,057 passing yards, 44 total TDs, 66.9 Comp. PCT. 10 INTs.
Winston has the potential to become the first back to back Heisman Trophy winner since Archie Griffin in the 74-75 seasons. Winston has the team and coaches around him to duplicate his 2013 season. His team is very impressive when it comes to speed and discipline which will contribute to less errors and bigger plays this year!
2. Marcus Mariota, QB, Oregon
2013 Stats: 3665 passing yards, 715 rushing yards, 40 total TDs, 4 INTs.
Marcus Mariota was considered to be the front runner for the Heisman most of the 2013 season before a late knee injury. Although he is a very exciting player to watch he isn’t as consistent as he needs to be in order to knock off Winston. Mariota needs big games including a win against Michigan State, Arizona and Stanford in order to win the Heisman.
3. Todd Gurley, RB, Georgia
2013 Stats: 989 rushing yards, 441 receiving yards, 16 total TDs, 6.0 YPC.
Todd Gurley is the best running back in the nation. The only reason, other than injury, he will not win the Heisman is because Georgia Bulldogs have little chance of being elite this year. Todd Gurley is the most NFL ready player in the NCAA and if Georgia is in the mix at the end of the season it will be strictly because of him!
4. Bryce Petty, QB, Baylor
2013 Stats: 4200 passing yards, 209 rushing yards, 46 total TDs, 3 INT.
Bryce Petty might have had the best season of any quarterback last year as the Baylor offense posted 70 or more points four times last year. Baylor has lost Lache Seastrunk to the NFL – this only means that Petty is going to pick up more yards and touchdowns this coming season. Baylor will win the Big 12, but will that be enough for Petty to take home the hardware?
5. Brett Hundley, QB, UCLA
2013 Stats: 3071 passing yards, 748 rushing yards, 35 total TDs, 9 INTs.
Brett Hundley not only passed for 3071 yards last season but he completed 67% of his passes as well. He led the UCLA Bruins in rushing as a rather elite passing quarterback. UCLA should have a breakout year and this kid is an absolute stud! If you don’t believe it just ask what the Super Bowl Champion Russell Wilson has to say about him!
Honorable Mention
Braxton Miller – He cannot stay healthy and does not throw the ball well enough to compete with the Top Quarterbacks in the nation.
Karlos Williams Sr. – Converted safety to running back only his second season as a running back, but he averaged 8 YPC last season.
Nick Marshall – He does not have the passing ability to compete with the Top Tier Quarterbacks and his numbers are not good enough.
Myles Jack – Played both sides of the ball for UCLA last season as RB and LB. Freshman defensive and offensive rookie of the year for the PAC 12.
Jacob Coker – Coker is a very talented quarterback playing on a very talented team. He has the right coach and players surrounding him to put that rocket arm to use!
