Expectations for Alabama – Texas A&M Should Be Tempered

For pretty much the entire offseason, the Alabama-Texas A&M matchup on September 14th has been hyped up like few regular season games. The Aggies were the only team a season ago to get the best of the Crimson Tide, and with reigning Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel back at the helm, Texas A&M is looking to shock the world again at Kyle Field. However, with this matchup happening so early in the season, expectations need to be limited a bit.

If you are a fantasy football player at the college level, you already know that there is talent galore in this matchup. The new SEC rivals are both BCS National Championship contenders, and this meeting will obviously give one or the other a leg up. However, the SEC is loaded this season, and more than likely, no team is going to go undefeated in the regular season. Alabama has won the last two National Championships, but they have done so with one loss on their resume both times.

There is also the chance that this game does not live up to expectations, simply because most agree that Alabama is the better of the two teams on paper. Texas A&M was somewhat shaky against Rice, although one could speculate that had a lot to do with Manziel only getting a chance to play in the second half. Alabama is one of the best teams at getting revenge on opponents, and although they will be going into a hostile environment, they have the championship pedigree to make this a fairly easy win.

Rarely do much-hyped college football regular season games live up to the hype. If you are a fantasy football player, or just a casual fan of the sport in general, chances are you will find a way to watch this game. However, it is just Week 3, and there will probably be a handful of games just as big this season that take place in the SEC alone. It won’t end the title chance for either team, so for that reason alone, people should just sit back and enjoy the matchup.
