According to Yahoo Sports Adrian Wojnarowski, John Calapari has sent an invitation to 30 NBA representatives to attend Kentucky’s NBA Scouting Combine Oct 11-12. To think that one school would even hold one combine for their own school is unheard of. Then again, is it? Kentucky has been known for producing numerous NBA prospects ever since Coach Cal took over in 2009. 20, to be exact, have been drafted under Calapari at Kentucky.
Not only is this unusual, but it’s genius. By hosting a Scouting Combine, it allows more attention to his players. This would be something for high school recruits to look at and think they could get even more exposure and talk with the NBA personnel. The 2 day combine is expected to feature five-on-five work, NBA style pick and roll sets, and individual drills. When the Combine is over, Calapari is expected to shun NBA personnel and not allow them access to the team.
His upcoming team will be loaded, again. They feature numerous McDonald’s All-Americans highlighted by Karl Towns and Trey Lyles. Not to mention, they will return the Harrison twins, Dakari Johnson, Willy Cauley-Stein, and Alex Poythress. The Wildcats will be playing deep into March!
