According to a source, the Cleveland Cavaliers and Ray Allen have agreed to a deal. Allen was debating whether to retire or play for a contender, but he didn’t want to go through the rigors of a full season. Other known teams to have interest in him most notably were the Atlanta Hawks, Golden State Warriors, and San Antonio Spurs. On February 9th, ESPN reported that he would make a decision whether to play or not after the All-Star break. The Akron Beacon Journal, also, reported that the Cavaliers and Allen’s representatives have been in contact throughout the season.
Ray Allen averaged a career low 9.6 points for the Miami Heat last season to go along with 1.6 3-point field goals made, his lowest since his third year in the NBA. He does, however, own the record for the most 3-point field goals made in NBA history. The Cavaliers feature a couple of LeBron James’ old running mates from Miami – James Jones and Mike Miller. According to the source, Allen felt more inclined to go after one more championship with them and that the Hawks were not up to par with the Cavaliers. Also, his relationship with James is well documented, as their families vacationed together.
The 2015 season will be Ray Allen’s 19th year in the NBA.
