The Golden State Warriors have just announced that their new arena will cost $1 Billion. The cost may increase further, Warriors owner Welts warned, as the piers designated for construction are in such poor shape that they’re “falling into the Bay.” The stadium should be ready by the 2017 season.
One of the most important factors in determining where to put an arena is how to fit it somewhere near a clogged city. To fix this problem, the architects decided to throw it in the middle of the San Francisco Waterfront in the shadow of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge.
The best feature with this new arena is that the Eastern side of the arena is an enormous window. The view from this glass window will allow fans to view the Bay Bridge from their seats inside the arena during games or events. This is the first basketball arena to ever do this.
The exterior of this arena is composed of a giant Walk-Way that loops around the entire arena to the very top. This gives fans an entire view of the San Francisco Skyline and Bay Area in one loop around the building.
The new arena will seat around 17,500 (2,000 fewer than the Oracle) but it will also give fans without tickets an easy peek to the action with their giant Walk-Way and huge windows. The video below is the introduction and announcement of the new stadium.
