South Carolina enters 2026 with a schedule shaped by the SEC’s move to nine conference games, the biggest structural change to the league in decades. Shane Beamer’s sixth season brings seven home games and one genuinely unusual feature: the Gamecocks never play back-to-back road games all year.

The SEC and its broadcast partners release kickoff times and TV assignments on a rolling basis, usually six to 12 days before each game. Nine of the 12 are conference games under the league’s new format.
The Nine-Game SEC Schedule Changes Everything
2026 is the first season of the SEC’s nine-game conference slate, and it costs South Carolina a bye — the Gamecocks drop from two open dates to one. Every team now has three permanent annual opponents locked in through 2029, with six rotating.
South Carolina’s three are Georgia, Kentucky and Florida. The rotating six this year are Mississippi State, Tennessee and Texas A&M at home, plus road trips to Alabama, Arkansas and Oklahoma.
The Scheduling Quirk
South Carolina does not play consecutive road games at any point in 2026. In a 12-game season with nine conference opponents, that is a genuine rarity and the single most favourable thing about the layout.
The trade-off is the back half. From October 24 the Gamecocks face Tennessee, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Arkansas, Georgia and Clemson in six straight weeks with no break.
Georgia Comes Late for Once
For years South Carolina opened SEC play against Georgia. In 2026 the Bulldogs come to Williams-Brice on November 21 to close the conference season instead — a week before the Palmetto Bowl at Clemson.
Beamer has never beaten Georgia. He is, however, 5-0 in the second-to-last game of the regular season and has historically been strong in November.
Series Notes
Mississippi State returns to Columbia for the first time since 2023, a 37-30 Gamecocks win. South Carolina has taken eight of the last nine and leads the series 10-7.
Alabama meets South Carolina for a third straight season, and the Crimson Tide have won the last two.
Oklahoma hosts on Halloween. The programs had never played before the Sooners joined the SEC; they have split the two meetings since, each winning on the other’s field.
Texas A&M brings the Bonham Trophy to Columbia. The Aggies lead the all-time series 10-2 but have lost the last two in Williams-Brice.
Arkansas is only South Carolina’s second trip to Fayetteville since 2013. The Razorbacks lead 14-10 all-time, though the Gamecocks have won three of the last four.
Non-Conference Notes
Kent State opens the season, having replaced a home-and-home with Miami that both schools mutually agreed to cancel. Towson visits Williams-Brice for the first time in week two — an FCS program from the Coastal Athletic Association that went 6-6 last season.
Kentucky arrives under a new head coach. Mark Stoops was fired in December and replaced by former Oregon offensive coordinator Will Stein, ending a matchup Beamer had won three of four times.
