South Carolina opens at Williams-Brice Stadium against Kent State — an opponent that only landed on the schedule because a more attractive one fell through.

Why Kent State Is on the Schedule
South Carolina had a home-and-home arranged with Miami. Both schools mutually agreed to cancel it, and Kent State was booked to fill the date.
That is how a season opener against a MAC program ends up on an SEC schedule: not by design, but as a replacement for something that was supposed to be better.
The Season That Follows
South Carolina’s schedule is unusually well laid out. The Gamecocks never play back-to-back road games all year, which in a nine-game SEC season is a genuine rarity.
The trade-off is the finish: from October 24 they face Tennessee, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Arkansas, Georgia and Clemson in six consecutive weeks with no break. Our South Carolina schedule has the full year.
Williams-Brice at Midday
An early-afternoon kickoff in Columbia in September means heat, and Williams-Brice offers little shade. The stadium’s reputation rests on night games, but the temperature is its own home-field advantage in the early window.
How to Watch
This is on the linear SEC Network, not the SEC Network+ streaming tier — a distinction that matters, since two other Week 1 games are streaming-only. Fubo, YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV and DirecTV Stream all carry SEC Network, and the ESPN App streams it for authenticated subscribers.
The Bottom Line
Kent State at South Carolina kicks off 12:45 p.m. ET Saturday, September 5 on SEC Network from Williams-Brice Stadium. Kent State replaced a cancelled home-and-home with Miami. SEC Network requires a cable or streaming subscription.
