Broncos vs. Chiefs All-Time Record and Head-to-Head History

Denver and Kansas City have been playing each other since 1960, when both were charter members of the American Football League. Only a handful of NFL rivalries have run that long without interruption, and almost none of them have swung this far in both directions.

The overall ledger favors Kansas City by a comfortable margin. The last few seasons have not.

The 16-Game Streak That Defined a Decade

From November 2015 through October 2023, Kansas City beat Denver sixteen consecutive times. That run covered the tail of the Alex Smith era, the arrival of Patrick Mahomes, three Super Bowl trips and a revolving door of Broncos quarterbacks. It is the single biggest reason the all-time record sits where it does, because Denver had led or stayed close in the series for most of the previous fifty years.

Denver finally broke it on Oct. 29, 2023, winning 24-9 at home behind three touchdown passes from Russell Wilson on a night Mahomes threw two interceptions and no scores.

Denver Owns the Present

The Broncos have taken the last three, and the sequence says something about how fast the balance shifted. The 38-0 result in January 2025 came with Kansas City locked into the top seed and resting starters, so it carries an asterisk in terms of what it proved. The two 2025 season wins do not. Denver won 22-19 in November with Mahomes on the field, then closed the year with a 20-13 win at Arrowhead on Christmas while Kansas City was down to a third string quarterback.

Those results came during a 14-3 Denver season that ended with the Broncos hosting the AFC Championship Game, and a 6-11 Kansas City season that ended a long playoff streak.

The Only Playoff Meeting

For two teams that have played 132 times, the postseason overlap is remarkably thin. They have met exactly once in January, and Denver won it. Two franchises in the same division that spent most of the 1990s and 2010s taking turns at the top somehow almost never collided in the bracket.

What the Series Looks Like Now

Kansas City still leads by 14 games and that is not changing soon. But the active streak belongs to Denver, and the 2026 opener at Arrowhead is the first chance to see whether the last two years were a Mahomes injury story or a genuine handoff in the AFC West. Our Mahomes vs. Broncos career record page has the game by game history, and the game preview has the odds.

The Bottom Line

Kansas City leads the all-time series 73-59, including 73-58 in the regular season and one postseason loss. Denver has won three straight and four of the last six after a stretch in which it lost sixteen in a row. The record book and the recent form point in opposite directions, which is exactly what makes Monday night worth watching.
