The Main Event
Van won the title from Pantoja at UFC 323 in December in 26 seconds, when Pantoja was injured after Van caught a head kick and Pantoja fell. Dana White said shoulder that night; Pantoja’s team said elbow the next day. Nothing was settled in the cage, which is the entire reason this rematch exists.
Van is 24 and 17-2, the first UFC fighter from Myanmar and the first champion born in the 2000s. He answered the questions about how he won the belt by taking a hard first defense against Tatsuro Taira in May and stopping him in the final round. Pantoja is 36 and 30-6, and before that 26 second loss he had not been beaten in more than five years.
