How NHL Standings Work

Teams get two points for a win and one for an overtime or shootout loss. Sixteen teams make the playoffs: the top three in each of the four divisions plus two wild cards per conference. The gold line in each division marks the top three. When teams are tied on points, the first tiebreaker is fewer games played, then regulation wins.
