Case Keenum is the Chicago Bears’ 38 year old veteran quarterback, and on Monday Night Football, September 28, 2026, he led the Bears to a 27 to 7 win over the Philadelphia Eagles in his first start since December 2023. Filling in for the injured Caleb Williams, Keenum went 24 of 34 for 247 yards with two touchdown passes and a 1 yard touchdown run, no interceptions and no sacks. He became the oldest player in Bears history to score a rushing touchdown and joined Ryan Fitzpatrick as the only quarterbacks to win a start for seven different NFL teams.
Why Keenum Started for the Bears
Williams was ruled out for Monday’s game with a hamstring injury, and backup Tyson Bagent spent most of the week in the concussion protocol. The Minneapolis Miracle
Keenum’s signature moment came in the 2017 NFC Divisional Round, when his 61 yard touchdown pass to Stefon Diggs on the final play beat the Saints, a play Vikings fans call the Minneapolis Miracle. It capped a season in which Keenum went from backup to one of the league’s most efficient passers.
College Career at Houston
Before the NFL, Keenum was one of the most prolific passers in college football history at the University of Houston, where he finished as the NCAA’s career leader in passing yards (19,217) and completions (1,546). He went undrafted in 2012 and signed with his hometown Texans.
