Florida has had at least one player taken in every NFL draft since 1967, the longest active streak of any SEC program, and in April 2026 it did something it had never done: put a player in all seven rounds of a single draft. Caleb Banks went 18th to Minnesota, Jake Slaughter and Austin Barber followed on the second day, and a kicker and a punter closed it out on the third. Florida and defending champion Indiana were the only two programs to cover every round.

Banks was Florida’s first defensive lineman taken in the first round since Taven Bryan in 2018 and its highest since Gerard Warren went third in 2001. Slaughter, a first team All-American at centre in 2024, allowed one sack in more than 800 snaps in his career. Seven picks matched the 2025 class, though that one had no player taken before the fourth round, the first time in twelve years Florida had missed the first three.
The Meyer Era Classes
The 2010 draft, held after Urban Meyer’s second title and Tim Tebow’s last season, produced nine Florida picks including Joe Haden at seventh, Maurkice Pouncey at 18th, Tebow at 25th and Carlos Dunlap and Brandon Spikes on the second day. The 2007 championship team sent Jarvis Moss, Reggie Nelson and Ray McDonald into the first two rounds, and 2011 added Mike Pouncey at 15th. The Spurrier Era and Before
Steve Spurrier’s teams sent Ike Hilliard and Reidel Anthony into the first round of the 1997 draft after the national title, Fred Taylor in 1998, Jevon Kearse in 1999 and Rex Grossman in 2003 under Ron Zook. Before him, Emmitt Smith went 17th to Dallas in 1990 and became the NFL’s career rushing leader, Wilber Marshall went 11th in 1984, and Jack Youngblood went 20th in 1971 on the way to the Hall of Fame. Spurrier himself was the third pick of the 1967 draft, the year the streak began.
The Lean Stretch
Florida’s draft output thinned through the Muschamp, McElwain and Mullen years relative to the Meyer peak, though Dante Fowler at third overall in 2015, Vernon Hargreaves in 2016 and Kyle Pitts at fourth in 2021, the highest a tight end has ever been taken, kept the first round streak alive in most years. Anthony Richardson at fourth in 2023 was the last top five pick, and the 2025 draft produced seven players with none before the 103rd pick.
The Bottom Line
