Lane Kiffin at Ole Miss: His Record, His Six Seasons and How He Fared Against LSU

Lane Kiffin went 55 and 19 in six seasons at Ole Miss, from 2020 through the 2025 regular season. Before he arrived, the program had three 10 win seasons in its history and had never won 10 regular season games. He produced five 10 win seasons in six years, the school’s first College Football Playoff berth, and the roster that reached the semifinal after he left. Against LSU, the team he now coaches, he went 3 and 3, and the home team won all six games.

Kiffin Against LSU

Six meetings, three wins each, and the pattern is the whole story: Ole Miss won every game in Oxford and LSU won every game in Baton Rouge. Kiffin never won at Tiger Stadium as the Rebels’ coach and never lost to LSU at Vaught-Hemingway. Tonight he is the visitor in Oxford for the first time.

Year Site Result Score
2020 Baton Rouge LSU 53 to 48
2021 Oxford Ole Miss 31 to 17
2022 Baton Rouge LSU 45 to 20
2023 Oxford Ole Miss 55 to 49
2024 Baton Rouge LSU 29 to 26, overtime
2025 Oxford Ole Miss 24 to 19

What He Left Behind

The 2025 team is the clearest measure of the job. Kiffin recruited and assembled the roster, went 11 and 1 with it, and left on November 30 before the playoff. Pete Golding, his defensive coordinator, took that roster to wins over Tulane and Georgia and a four point semifinal loss to Miami. The program he inherited in December 2019 had gone 4 and 8. The one he handed over finished ranked third in the country.

The 2024 win over Georgia, 28 to 10 in front of what was then a record crowd at Vaught-Hemingway, was his first top five win at Ole Miss and the game that made the playoff feel possible. The 2022 collapse, from 7 and 0 to 8 and 5, was the low point, and the two seasons after it were the two best in school history at the time.
