Updated Monday, August 31, 2026. The postseason eligibility deadline falls at 11:59 p.m. ET tonight.
The last day of August is one of the busiest transaction days of the season, because it is the final chance to add a player who can appear in October. Anyone joining an organisation after tonight is ineligible for the postseason.

Boston Got Two Starters Back
The Red Sox activating Roman Anthony and Trevor Story from the 60-day injured list on the same day is the most significant on-field development of the weekend. Boston holds the American League’s second wild card with a comfortable buffer, and getting two regulars back for the final month is worth more than anything a call-up could provide.
Both were activated before the deadline, so both are postseason eligible.
The Angels Filled Their 40-Man
Los Angeles made six moves in a single afternoon and ended with a full 40-man roster. That matters for what comes next: with no open spots, the Angels cannot promote anyone in September without designating or releasing somebody first.
It is a good illustration of the constraint that shapes every September promotion. Our page on the 40-man requirement explains why.
What Happens Next
Rosters expand from 26 players to 28 at the start of September, with the pitcher limit rising from 13 to 14. All 28 spots must be filled, and every addition must already be on the 40-man roster.
Our September call-ups tracker logs the promotions as they are announced, and September roster rules covers what changes.
The Bottom Line
Baltimore claimed Luis Robert Jr. on the final day of postseason eligibility while sitting a game out of a wild card. Boston activated Roman Anthony and Trevor Story from the 60-day injured list. The Angels made six moves and filled their 40-man roster, which limits what they can do in September.
