It has been almost eight months since the “Big Dog” returned to the WWE ring after battling with leukemia. However, it somehow feels like the WWE’s biggest superstar hasn’t been getting as much exposure as he deserves. WWE hasn’t made Roman Reigns return about Roman Reigns at all. PPVs came and went, but the spotlight evaded Reigns as we saw Seth Rollins, Kofi Kingston and even Becky Lynch take the central stage. Before Reigns departed for his treatment, these superstars were nowhere near him when it came to popularity. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that Roman was ruling the WWE fanbase. And now, as it turns out, they have now posed an unsaid challenge to Reigns for the top spot as WWE’s merchandise-selling king.
But we all know that it’s only a matter of time before Reigns makes his actual comeback to the top of the cards. And according to WWE News, with the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania season right around the corner we can expect a rejuvenation to Reigns’ WWE career soon. WWE would be glad to put their biggest entertainer for a title push biggest pay-per-view of the year. And we suspect that it can very well be an InterContinental title push for Reigns planned in the near future.
What has confirmed our theory is Reigns’ big win at the star-studded match pitting Team Flair against Team Hogan. Amongst all the young and famous talent participating, the man to get the match-clinching pin wasn’t Drew McIntyre, Ali or Ricochet. It was none other than the ‘Big Dog’ Roman Reigns. And the fact that Reigns didn’t win by pinning some newcomer but with a vicious spear on Randy Orton, makes it conclusive evidence that Reigns is up for something big. WWE has certainly planned something huge for their biggest performer.
Some might argue that Reigns didn’t need that win to get there. But the fact that he got it and in such an emphatic manner, we just can’t ignore the obvious that Roman is getting a title push. Who knows when it might come, it might be at a huge match at WrestleMania 36 or at the Royal Rumble, but it will be there for sure. It might be extremely necessary for WWE to revive it’s ratings which have fallen considerably since the ‘Big Dog’ left the scene. It has been a mix of that, the competition from All Elite Wrestling and a certain lousy scripting, which has brought WWE to where it stands now.
Reigns has recently issued a warning to NXT superstars asking them not to be too comfortable in his yard. On November 1st, we saw several NXT superstars such as Shanaya Baszler, Rhea Ripley, Adam Cole and Tommaso Ciampa invading the SmackDown as several SmackDown superstars missed the episode, being stuck on an aircraft back from Saudi Arabia due to mechanical faults. Roman took to Twitter to warn the wrestlers from the WWE’s Black and Gold development brand. Roman posted-
I respect y’all stepping up…but don’t get too comfortable in my yard. @WWENXT
The invasion was nothing but an act setting up the stage for the Survivor Series, where the three primary brands of WWE – RAW, SmackDown and NXT will fight each other for supremacy. Maybe Roman will play a pivotal role in the event. Perhaps this can be the very beginning of what might be the ‘reign’ of the “Big Dog”! Only time will tell.
