Games That Will Define the Broncos’ Season

Wk 1 at Chiefs Monday night at Arrowhead to open the season, against the team Denver displaced atop the AFC West. The rematch is at home in Week 8.
Wk 16 vs Bills Christmas Day at Empower Field on Netflix, a rematch of the divisional-round game Denver won in January.
Wk 17 at Patriots A rematch of the AFC Championship Game, played at Gillette this time. The date and window are set later in the season.
Wk 12 at Steelers The Black Friday game, a 3:00 p.m. kickoff on Prime Video in Pittsburgh. Denver has lost its last three meetings with the Steelers.
A Division-Bracketed Season
Denver opens at Kansas City and closes at home against the Chargers, with all six AFC West games spread from Week 1 to Week 18. None of them fall in the same month twice.
Five Standalone Windows
A Monday night opener, a Sunday night against the Rams, a Thursday night against Seattle, Black Friday in Pittsburgh and Christmas at home. Week 17 could add a sixth.
Nine on the Road
Only eight games are at altitude, which cuts against Denver’s biggest structural edge. Four of the first five weeks are away from Mile High or against playoff teams.

How the Schedule Sets Up

The opening month is unforgiving: Kansas City on Monday night, then Jacksonville and the Rams at home before back-to-back California road games at San Francisco and the Chargers. Denver comes out of that stretch straight into a short week against Seattle.

The Week 10 bye lands after Carolina and before the Raiders, and the run home is where the schedule turns strange. Black Friday in Pittsburgh, Miami at home, the Jets, Las Vegas, Christmas against Buffalo, then the AFC Championship rematch in New England. For the other side of the two Chiefs games, see our Kansas City Chiefs schedule page. Full league schedules and flexible-scheduling rules are published by the NFL.

The Bottom Line

Eight home games, a Week 10 bye, Black Friday in Pittsburgh and Christmas against Buffalo. Denver went 14-3 and hosted the AFC Championship Game last season, and the league rewarded it with five standalone windows and a December that runs through both of last winter’s playoff opponents.
