The 2026 Draft
Seven Sooners were selected, the most since 2022, though none in the first round. Defensive end R Mason Thomas went to Kansas City in the second round on Friday, and six more followed on Saturday, three in the fourth round and three in the seventh.

Nwaiwu was the first Oklahoma player ever drafted by Houston and the fourteenth offensive lineman drafted in Bill Bedenbaugh’s thirteen seasons coaching the line. Nwaiwu and Halton went with consecutive picks.
The Stoops and Riley Pipeline
Oklahoma’s draft output peaked in the Stoops era, with 11 players taken in 2005 from the 2004 championship game team and steady double figure classes through the decade. The Riley years produced the two No. 1 quarterbacks plus Jalen Hurts, CeeDee Lamb, Marquise Brown and a run of offensive linemen. The 2022 class, the last of Riley’s recruits, produced the most picks since, and the 2026 class of seven is the first of the Venables era to reach that figure.

Oklahoma’s historical draft strength is at running back and on both lines. Selmon and his brothers, Tony Casillas, Tommie Harris and Gerald McCoy on the defensive front; Sims, Adrian Peterson at seventh overall in 2007, DeMarco Murray and Joe Mixon at running back; and a continuous line of offensive linemen from the Switzer years through Bedenbaugh’s tenure.
