Florida vs. Georgia All-Time Record and Rivalry History

Georgia leads Florida 57 to 44 with two ties, or 58 to 44 with two ties, depending on which school is counting, and has won five straight. From Gainesville the series is best understood as three eras: Georgia’s dominance before 1990, Florida’s under Steve Spurrier and Urban Meyer, when the Gators won 16 of 18, and Georgia’s again under Kirby Smart, who has won eight of the last nine. The 2026 game leaves Jacksonville for the first time in three decades, to Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on October 31.

The Spurrier Years

Steve Spurrier went 11 and 1 against Georgia, losing only in 1997, and the shape of the margins is what Georgia fans remember: 47 to 7 in 1996 and 52 to 17 in Athens in 1995. He treated the game as the one that decided the SEC East, which for most of the 1990s it did, and his teams won six conference titles while holding Georgia to one win in the series. Our head coaches page covers his tenure.

The Meyer Years

Urban Meyer went 5 and 1, and the one loss produced the most replayed game of the era. In 2007 Georgia’s entire bench stormed the field after its first touchdown at Mark Richt’s instruction and won 42 to 30. In 2008 Florida won 49 to 10 and Meyer called timeouts in the final minute with the game long decided, which Georgia read as an answer. The 2008 win was on the way to a national championship. Florida’s 2006 win, 21 to 14, was on the way to another. Our national championships page covers both.

The Smart Years

Kirby Smart is 8 and 1 against Florida since 2017, the exception being a 44 to 28 Florida win in 2020 under Dan Mullen with Kyle Trask at quarterback. The five straight since include 42 to 20 in 2022 and 43 to 20 in 2023, and last November’s 24 to 20 game in Jacksonville was the closest of the run, with Florida under interim coach Billy Gonzales two weeks after Billy Napier’s firing. Georgia won the SEC in 2024 and 2025; Florida finished 4 and 8.

Why the Counts Differ

Georgia counts a 52 to 0 win in 1904 over a team from Florida Agricultural College in Lake City, which was consolidated into the University of Florida in 1905. Florida does not regard that team as its own and dates the series to 1915. The gap has been one game for more than a century and neither school has moved.

Leaving Jacksonville

The game has been played in Jacksonville since 1933, at the old Gator Bowl and then at the stadium now called EverBank, with breaks only for the war in 1943 and the stadium’s reconstruction in 1994 and 1995, when it went to Gainesville and Athens. EverBank’s renovation moves the 2026 game to Atlanta and the 2027 game to Tampa, with a return to Jacksonville in 2028. Atlanta is a home city for one side, and Georgia fans have said so; Florida’s position is that Mercedes-Benz Stadium is where the SEC championship game is played and the Gators have won it there. Our 2026 schedule page has the date and time.

The Games Florida Remembers

1984. Florida won 27 to 0, its first win in the series since 1977, in the season it won an SEC title that was later vacated.

1995. The first game in Athens since 1932, and Spurrier’s team scored 52 in Sanford Stadium.

2008. 49 to 10, the timeouts, and Tim Tebow in the game that followed his promise after the Ole Miss loss.

2020. Kyle Trask threw four touchdown passes in a 44 to 28 win, Florida’s only victory in the series in the past nine seasons.

The Bottom Line

Georgia leads Florida 57 to 44 with two ties by Florida’s count and 58 to 44 by Georgia’s, and has won five straight and eight of nine under Kirby Smart. Florida’s era was 1990 to 2010, when Spurrier and Meyer went a combined 16 and 2. The 2026 game is October 31 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, the first outside Jacksonville since 1995. Our Georgia vs Florida page covers the series from Athens.
