Miami enters 2026 with an all time record of 688 wins, 394 losses and 19 ties, a .633 winning percentage, in its 100th varsity season. The program did not win a national title until 1983, then won five in 19 years, produced the two longest home winning streaks of the modern era, and last season reached the College Football Playoff national championship game for the first time, finishing 13-3.

Record by Era
1926 to 1978. Miami started as a freshman team that went 8-0 in 1926, played its first varsity season in 1927 and spent five decades as a respectable independent: Jack Harding’s wartime teams, Gustafson’s 16 years, George Mira and Ted Hendricks in the 1960s. By 1978 the trustees were debating dropping to Division I-AA or eliminating football.
1979 to 1992, the dynasty. Schnellenberger, Johnson and Erickson went 156 wins and 34 losses over 14 seasons with four national titles, two Heismans, a 58 game home winning streak and a 29 game overall winning streak. From 1985 through 1992 Miami finished in the top three in seven of eight seasons.
1993 to 1999, sanctions. The Pell Grant scandal cost 31 scholarships from 1996 to 1998 and produced the only losing season between 1979 and 2007, 5-6 in 1997. Butch Davis rebuilt the roster into the one that won it all.
2000 to 2003, the last peak. A 34 game winning streak, the 2001 title, the 2002 title game and four straight top five finishes, with 19 first round picks in four drafts.
2004 to 2023, the wilderness. Twenty seasons in the ACC without a conference title, four losing seasons, self imposed bowl bans in 2011 and 2012, and the 58-0 loss to Clemson in 2015.
2024 to present. Cam Ward’s 10-3 season and Carson Beck’s 13-3 run through Texas A&M, Ohio State and Ole Miss in the playoff before the 27-21 loss to Indiana in the championship game.
