Miami plays its home games at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, the Dolphins’ stadium 22 miles north of the Coral Gables campus, and has since 2008, when the Orange Bowl was demolished after 71 seasons. It is the only power conference program in a shared NFL building, which shapes everything about a Canes game day, from the tailgating lots to the retractable canopy that keeps the sun off most of the seats.

Traditions
The smoke. The Hurricanes run out through a wall of white smoke, a tradition that began at the Orange Bowl in the 1950s with fire extinguishers and now uses smoke machines in the tunnel.
The Turnover Chain. Introduced in 2017 under Mark Richt, a heavy gold chain with a jeweled U pendant awarded on the sideline to any defender who forces a turnover. It has been redesigned several times and spawned copycats across the sport.
Sebastian the Ibis and the U. Sebastian has been the mascot since the 1950s, and the split U logo, introduced in 1973, is the most recognizable single letter in college football. The two finger U hand sign is the standard crowd gesture.
The Band of the Hour plays “Miami U How Dee Do” and the theme from the Hurricanes’ entrance.
Game Day Logistics
Getting there. The stadium sits at the junction of the Florida Turnpike and I-95 in Miami Gardens. There is no rail service; most fans drive, and traffic on NW 199th Street and Don Shula Drive backs up for an hour before kickoff. Rideshare drop off zones are on the east side.
Parking and tailgating. The stadium is surrounded by surface lots that are all pre sold for Hurricanes games and open four hours before kickoff, with tailgating allowed throughout. The Canes student section and student tailgate area sit on the south side.
Weather. Early season games are hot and humid with afternoon thunderstorms common; the canopy covers about 92 percent of seats but not the field. Bring rain gear in September.
Concessions. The stadium runs the same premium food program as Dolphins games, with local restaurants on the concourses and Cuban options throughout.
The Orange Bowl Legacy
Miami played at the Orange Bowl in Little Havana from 1937 through 2007 and won all five national titles while it was the home field. The stadium held the 58 game home winning streak from 1985 to 1994, still the NCAA record, and hosted the 1984, 1988, 1992 and 1995 Orange Bowl games that decided national championships involving the Hurricanes. It was demolished in 2008; Marlins Park (now loanDepot park) stands on the site. Miami’s Ring of Honor names, first displayed on the Orange Bowl facade, moved to Hard Rock Stadium.
