The Three Records She Passed in 17 Days
In February and early March of 2024 Clark climbed past three different all-time scoring marks.
On February 15, in her 126th career game, she passed Kelsey Plum’s NCAA women’s record of 3,527 points. She did it with a 35 foot three, then finished with a school record 49 points, nine threes and 13 assists in a 106-89 win over Michigan.
On February 28, in game 129, she passed Lynette Woodard’s major college women’s record of 3,649, set at Kansas before the NCAA governed women’s sports.
On March 3, in game 130, she passed Pete Maravich’s Division I record of 3,667 against No. 2 Ohio State, finishing with 35 points, nine assists and six rebounds in a 93-83 win. Maravich set his mark in three seasons with no three point line.
What Made the Résumé Unusual
Clark is the only player in Division I history, men’s or women’s, to record 3,000 points and 1,000 assists in a career, and the only one to lead her conference in both scoring and assists for four straight seasons. She was the first Division I player to reach 3,800 points, 1,000 assists and 950 rebounds, and the first to post back to back 1,000 point seasons.
She had 59 career games of 30 or more points, the most in college basketball over the previous 25 seasons, and 20 games with at least 30 points and 10 assists.
March
She holds NCAA Tournament records for points, assists and three pointers, including the most threes in a single tournament game. In the 2024 Elite Eight against LSU she broke Diana Taurasi’s tournament three point record on the opening possession, then put up 41 points and 12 assists to send Iowa to the Final Four.
Her college career ended in the 2024 national championship game, an 87-75 loss to an undefeated South Carolina team. Clark scored 30, including 18 in the first quarter, the most points in any quarter of a title game.
