Update, Sunday: Kyler Murray is officially inactive at Chicago. He remains in the concussion protocol and Carson Wentz starts for Minnesota.
Kyler Murray’s status for Sunday’s game at Chicago was unresolved for most of the week. The Vikings quarterback was knocked out of his Minnesota debut in the first quarter with a concussion and remains in the league’s protocol. He was a limited participant in Wednesday’s practice, which is a step in the right direction, but he has to clear all five stages and get an independent neurologist’s sign off before he can play. If he does not, Carson Wentz starts against the Bears.
The Status
| Player | Kyler Murray, QB, Minnesota Vikings |
| Injury | Concussion (first quarter of the Week 1 win over Green Bay) |
| Practice | Limited Wednesday |
| Game | Sunday, Sept. 20 at Chicago, 1 p.m. ET on Fox |
| If out | Carson Wentz starts |
What Comes Next
The protocol runs from rest to light activity to non contact practice to full practice, and the final designation comes Friday. A limited Wednesday usually means a player is at the non contact stage; a full practice Thursday or Friday would put him on track. Minnesota’s 39-22 win over Green Bay came mostly with Wentz at quarterback, and the Vikings are 5.5 point underdogs in Chicago either way.
