Jared Goff has played the Buffalo Bills three times, once with the Rams and twice with the Lions, and lost all three by a combined 14 points. The numbers are a different story: 1,055 passing yards and nine touchdowns against one interception, capped by the 494 yard, five touchdown game in December 2024 that tied the Lions’ single game record for passing scores in a 48-42 loss. Thursday night in Buffalo is his first chance to beat them.

The Three Games
2020 with the Rams. Goff threw for 321 yards and two touchdowns in Orchard Park and the Rams rallied from 28-3 down to take a 32-28 lead before Josh Allen’s late touchdown pass to Tyler Kroft won it 35-32. Allen threw four touchdowns that day.
2022 Thanksgiving. Goff went 23 of 37 for 240 with one yard touchdowns to Amon-Ra St. Brown and DJ Chark. Detroit tied it at 25 on a 51 yard Michael Badgley field goal with 23 seconds left, then lost on a Tyler Bass kick with two seconds to go. A safety on a Goff sack in the third quarter and a missed 29 yard field goal were the difference.
2024. The best statistical game of Goff’s career in a loss: 38 of 59 for 494 yards and five touchdowns with no interceptions and a 118.9 rating. Detroit fell behind 35-14 in the third quarter and scored 21 in the fourth but never got the ball back with a chance to tie. The 494 yards are Goff’s career high and the five touchdowns matched the Lions’ single game record.
Goff Entering Week 2, 2026
| Week 1 vs. New Orleans | 26 of 39, 206 yds, 2 TD, 0 INT in a 31-30 overtime win; the overtime touchdown went to St. Brown |
| 2025 season | 4,564 passing yards, 34 touchdowns, 8 interceptions in 17 games |
| Career | No. 1 overall pick in 2016; single season Lions records for passer rating (111.8) and completion percentage (72.4) set in 2024 |
The Lions have not beaten Buffalo since 2006, five straight losses in the series, so a win Thursday would be the franchise’s first over the Bills in the Goff era.
