Why the Record Is What It Is
Match play is a small sample, and Scheffler’s partners have carried more of the American team’s pressure than usual because of who he is. Captain Brandt Snedeker said this week that Scheffler will not be the reason the United States wins or loses, and that finding his partner is a task that never really ends. Henley, who has played all his team matches in the Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup with Scheffler, said the pairing is comfortable rather than intimidating. Burns, a friend since junior golf, hinted Tuesday that he already knew his partner and that the name starts with an S.
