NBC Sports has assigned a dedicated broadcast team to each of the four MLB Wild Card Series. Jason Benetti calls Red Sox vs. Yankees in prime time, Matt Vasgersian has Phillies vs. Braves, Tom McCarthy has White Sox vs. Astros and Dave Flemming has the late Cubs vs. Padres game. Each booth includes an analyst from both teams’ regular broadcasts, plus former stars Joey Votto, Adam Ottavino, Anthony Rizzo and Clayton Kershaw as “Inside the Pitch” analysts. How NBC’s Booths Work
Rather than a single national crew, NBC is using the three analyst setup it built for Sunday Night Baseball and MLB Sunday Leadoff this season: the play by play announcer is joined by one analyst who covers each team all year, so both fan bases hear a familiar voice. The Inside the Pitch analyst, usually a recently retired player, works from a separate spot in the ballpark and breaks down pitch selection and matchups. Bob Costas, who called World Series games for NBC in the 1990s, joins the pregame coverage at Yankee Stadium.
