The Streak

The first round run began in 2009 with Andre Smith and has not missed a year since. Nick Saban’s teams produced 49 first round picks, and the two under Kalen DeBoer have added four more. The longest previous streak in NFL history was Miami’s 14 from 1995 to 2008.

Six first rounders in 2021, Patrick Surtain II, Jaylen Waddle, DeVonta Smith, Mac Jones, Alex Leatherwood and Najee Harris, tied the record for a single school in one draft.

The Quarterback Pipeline

Alabama has had eight quarterbacks drafted since 2006, the most of any school in that span, ahead of USC and Ohio State with seven. Ty Simpson at No. 13 in 2026 was the highest since Bryce Young went first overall in 2023.

The Bottom Line

Alabama has produced a first round pick in 18 consecutive drafts, the longest streak in NFL history, with 51 first rounders across that span and 86 all time. The program has had ten or more players drafted in seven of the last ten years, and a record twelve in 2018. Our Alabama Heisman winners page covers the program’s other individual honours.
