Eighteen Teams, No Divisions
The Big Ten has had no divisions since USC, UCLA, Oregon and Washington joined, and it now stretches from New Jersey to Los Angeles. Each team plays nine conference games out of a possible 17 opponents, which means the two teams that reach the championship game in Indianapolis often have not played each other.
How the Championship Game Works
The two best conference records meet in Indianapolis in early December. Ties are broken by head to head, then by record against the next highest common opponent, then by a rating system.
