Why the Percentage Trails the Wins
Georgia’s .669 is the lowest of the top ten programs by wins, and the reason is 434 losses accumulated across long stretches of mediocrity in the first half of the 20th century and the 1960s. Between 1892 and 1938 the program had 20 head coaches, and between the end of the Wally Butts era in 1960 and Vince Dooley’s arrival in 1964 it went 10, 16 and 4. The Smart Decade
Since 2017, Smart’s second season, Georgia is 109 and 16. That stretch includes two national championships, four SEC titles, five playoff appearances, a 29 game winning streak that is the longest in SEC history, a 42 game regular season winning streak that is a school record, and a 33 game home winning streak from 2019 to 2025 that is also a school record. The Bulldogs are 56 and 5 at home under Smart and 9 and 0 against top ten opponents at Sanford Stadium.
Five straight seasons of eleven or more wins had never happened at Georgia before 2021.
The 2025 Season
Georgia went 12 and 2, won the SEC by beating Alabama 28 to 7 in Atlanta, took a first round bye as a top four seed, and lost the Sugar Bowl quarterfinal 39 to 34 to Ole Miss.
