Texas Tech is favored by a touchdown and a hook at Galaxy Stadium in the Big 12 opener for both teams. The number has fallen hard since the summer, when the Red Raiders were as much as 14 point favorites, after Texas Tech’s uninspiring 35-24 win at Oregon State as a 26 point favorite last week. Houston played the same Oregon State team in Week 1 and won 33-20 as a 20.5 point favorite, then hammered Southern 77-6.
What to Watch
- Texas Tech’s offense has not looked like its preseason billing. Quarterback Will Hammond is two games back from a torn ACL, and veteran backup Thomas Castellanos is available if the offense stalls.
- Houston is 2-0 and ranked for the second straight week. Its Week 1 win in Corvallis is the better resume line either team owns.
- Both teams play in the same conference, so the winner takes a tiebreaker into a Big 12 race that has no clear favorite after Week 2.
