The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox meet in the postseason again. The No. 4 Yankees host the No. 5 Red Sox in a best of three American League Wild Card Series at Yankee Stadium, starting Tuesday, September 29, with every game on NBC, NBCSN or Peacock. The matchup was set Friday when Boston swept a doubleheader from the Cubs to clinch the No. 5 seed. The winner plays the No. 1 Tampa Bay Rays in the ALDS starting Saturday, October 3.

How the Series Works
The Wild Card Series is best of three, and the higher seed hosts every game, so all of it is played in the Bronx. The first team to win two games advances. The bracket is fixed: the winner goes straight to Tampa Bay for the ALDS, a best of five series on TBS, truTV and HBO Max.
How They Got Here
The Yankees clinched the top AL wild card and the No. 4 seed earlier in the week after Tampa Bay won the AL East. Boston, already in the field, locked up the No. 5 seed on Friday with 4-3 and 2-0 wins over the Cubs at Fenway Park.
Recent Postseason History
This is the rivalry’s first postseason meeting since the 2021 AL Wild Card Game, a one game playoff Boston won 6-2 at Fenway Park. The two teams also met in the 2018 ALDS, won by Boston on its way to a World Series title, and in the ALCS in 1999, 2003 and 2004. The Yankees won the first two, and in 2004 the Red Sox came back from a 3-0 series deficit, the only such comeback in MLB postseason history.
