The Career Grand Slam
Winning all four majors in a career is a short list. Alcaraz got there in January 2026 by beating Djokovic in the Australian Open final, the one major that had eluded him, and he did it younger than anyone before him. He had already become the youngest man in the Open Era to reach the final of all four majors.
The Sinner Rivalry
Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have taken over the sport. Between them they have won every major since the 2024 Australian Open, and the 2025 season was the first in the Open Era in which the same two players met in three Grand Slam finals in one year. Alcaraz won the French Open and the US Open that season; Sinner won Wimbledon, which remains Alcaraz’s only Grand Slam final loss.
Where He Stands Right Now
A right wrist injury in April 2026 cost Alcaraz the French Open and Wimbledon, and the US Open is his first tournament in four months. He has not shown much rust. He beat Tommy Paul 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 on Sunday to reach the quarterfinals, dropping only one set through four matches, and his winning streak at the majors is now 18 matches. He is 26-3 for the season and faces Ben Shelton or Stefanos Tsitsipas next. No man has defended the US Open title since Roger Federer won five in a row from 2004 to 2008.
