How Each Team Got Here
United States (4-0). The Americans beat China 94-61, survived Italy 55-52, hammered Czechia 105-64 and then produced the highest scoring quarterfinal in World Cup history, 108-56 over Hungary: 60 percent from the field, 12 of 22 from three, 31 assists and a 52 to 16 edge in the paint with every player scoring. They have won 34 straight World Cup games and have not lost a semifinal since 2006.
Spain (3-1). Spain beat Germany by 30 in its opener, lost to Mali, beat Japan by 20, and then took a 31 to 17 first quarter lead on Australia in the quarterfinals and never let it go, winning 89-66. The Opals dressed eight players after Ezi Magbegor’s ACL tear was confirmed about 30 minutes before tip. Alicia Flórez had 17 and was Player of the Game.
Who to Watch
For the United States: Breanna Stewart, Napheesa Collier, Jackie Young, Kahleah Copper and Chelsea Gray have started every game, with Caitlin Clark, Paige Bueckers and Angel Reese first off the bench. Young leads the team at 11 points a game and Clark is among the tournament leaders in assists at about seven per game. Kara Lawson coaches a roster without A’ja Wilson or Kelsey Plum.
For Spain: Iyana Martín, the No. 7 pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft by the Portland Fire, leads at 16.5 points a game. Alicia Flórez of the Washington Mystics, Seattle rookie Awa Fam, Maria Conde of the Toronto Tempo and former Iowa center Megan DiLeo are all in the rotation.
The History
The last time these two met with a medal on the line was the 2014 final in Istanbul, which the United States won 77-64. Spain has never won a World Cup and is chasing a fourth podium finish.
