How Passer Rating Works
The NFL passer rating combines four numbers into one score: completion percentage, yards per attempt, touchdowns per attempt and interceptions per attempt. Each part is capped, so the highest possible rating is 158.3, often called a perfect passer rating. A rating above 100 is excellent over a full season, and the league average usually sits in the low 90s. Early in the season a few big games can push a quarterback to the top, so compare the attempts column as well.
QBR is a different measure that also weighs rushing, sacks and the game situation of each play, on a scale of 0 to 100. The two often disagree, which is why both are shown.
