How He Got Here

Taylor was a highly recruited quarterback from Noxubee County, Mississippi, who chose Mississippi State over Georgia, Texas A&M and Missouri. He took over as the starter late in 2025, making his first start in the Egg Bowl against Ole Miss, and has thrown at least three touchdowns in every game this season. ESPN’s Desmond Howard ranked him second in a hypothetical Heisman vote on College GameDay, behind Trinidad Chambliss, before Chambliss and Ole Miss lost at Florida.

The Case For and Against

For: elite efficiency, an unbeaten record, two SEC wins and the kind of breakout story voters remember. Against: Mississippi State is not a traditional power, which limits national exposure, and quarterbacks at bigger programs will get more prime time windows. Beating Alabama on Saturday would do more for his candidacy than any statistic.

The Bottom Line

Kamario Taylor is about +550 for the Heisman after Week 4, third behind Jeremiah Smith and Darian Mensah, with Mississippi State 4-0. Alabama at noon Saturday is his chance to move into the top two. The full board is on Heisman odds, and the game is on the Alabama vs. Mississippi State page.
