Nobody has 2026 game film yet, so Week 1 lineup advice built on projections is mostly guesswork dressed up as analysis. The betting market is the exception. Spreads and totals are set with real money by people paid to be right, and they tell you which offenses are expected to score and which are not.
Every call below is anchored to an implied team total, which is what the market expects a given team to score. The formula is simple: take the game total, then add half the spread for the favorite or subtract half for the underdog.
Start Em
| Player | Team total | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Omarion Hampton, RB, Chargers | 28.5 | Highest implied total of the week, and the only double digit favorite. Best game script for a back on the slate |
| Ladd McConkey, WR, Chargers | 28.5 | Same offense, and a 46.5 total means the points are not all coming on the ground |
| Chase Brown, RB, Bengals | 27 | The 50.5 total is the only one at 50 or above, three points clear of the next highest |
| Tee Higgins, WR, Bengals | 27 | The strongest WR2 play of the week. He is the second option in the highest scoring game on the board |
| Jameson Williams, WR, Lions | 28.25 | Detroit is favored by seven with a 49.5 total, the best combination of volume and efficiency on the slate |
| Emeka Egbuka, WR, Buccaneers | 23.5 | Underdogs in the highest total game throw. Both sides of Bengals and Bucs are startable |
| Davante Adams, WR, Rams | 26 | Thursday in Melbourne, 48.5 total, and the Rams are the Super Bowl favorite |
| Derrick Henry, RB, Ravens | 26 | Road favorite by 3.5 with a 48.5 total, which usually means fourth quarter carries |
| Zay Flowers, WR, Ravens | 26 | Indoors in Indianapolis, one of three games tied at a 48.5 total |
Sit Em
| Player | Team total | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Quinshon Judkins, RB, Browns | 16.5 | Lowest implied total of Week 1 by a wide margin. A 7.5 point dog in a 40.5 point game |
| Marvin Harrison Jr., WR, Cardinals | 18 | The trap of the week. See below |
| Garrett Wilson, WR, Jets | 18.5 | The 38.5 total is the lowest on the board by two full points |
| KC Concepcion, WR, Browns | 16.5 | Nothing in this offense is startable in a game the market has priced this low |
| Michael Wilson, WR, Cardinals | 18 | Second option on the second lowest implied total |
| Courtland Sutton, WR, Broncos | 19.75 | Monday night at Arrowhead with a 42.5 total. Flex only |
| Tony Pollard, RB, Titans | 20 | Volume is real but the ceiling is capped in the lowest total game of the week |
| Rachaad White, RB, Commanders | 20 | Road underdog by 5.5 in Philadelphia is a negative game script |

The trap: Arizona’s total looks fine and is not
The Cardinals play in a game with a 46.5 total, which is respectable, so a quick glance suggests a normal scoring environment. It is not. Arizona is getting 10.5 points. The total is high because the Chargers are expected to score nearly 29, not because both offenses are.
Arizona is implied for 18. That is the second lowest number of the week and it is hiding inside a healthy looking game total. Marvin Harrison Jr. is the player most likely to be started on bad information this week.
Start your studs anyway
The most common way to lose a Week 1 matchup is benching a player you drafted in the first three rounds because of a matchup. This list is a tiebreaker for flex spots, streaming decisions and kickers, not a reason to sit an anchor.
The clearest example is Bijan Robinson. Atlanta is implied for only 19.5 at Pittsburgh, one of the six lowest on the board, and he is still an every week start. The right takeaway is to lower your expectations, not to bench him. Same for Drake London in that offense: start him, but do not be surprised by a quiet afternoon.
Streaming and kickers
If you are picking a defense or a kicker off waivers, implied totals do most of the work. A kicker attached to an offense implied for 28.5 has meaningfully more scoring chances than one attached to 16.5, and the streaming defenses to target are the ones facing Cleveland, Arizona and the Jets, the three lowest implied totals of the week.
One scheduling warning
The season opens on a Wednesday this year, not a Thursday. Patriots at Seahawks kicks off at 8:20 p.m. ET on September 9, and the Thursday game is in Melbourne on Netflix. If your league locks players individually at kickoff, anyone in those two games locks before most managers have looked at their lineup.

The Bottom Line
Start players attached to the Chargers, Lions and Bengals, the three offenses the market expects to score most. Be careful with the Browns, Cardinals and Jets, the three it expects to score least. Start your studs regardless of matchup, and use implied totals to break ties everywhere else. Odds via DraftKings and subject to movement before kickoff.
