Prediction and Odds
Hampton went 5 and 7 last year with a 2 and 6 mark in the CAA and already has a game played, a home date with Virginia University of Lynchburg last weekend. Maryland has far more size and speed at every position, and a Big Ten program coming off a lost season tends to take out its frustration on Week 1. The only drama is the margin.

Maryland goes to UConn next week and then into a Big Ten schedule that offered it one win a year ago, so the Terps need to look sharp, not just win. For Hampton, this is a landmark: its first Power 4 game, in front of the large Pirates alumni base in the D.C. area, with Georgia Tech on the schedule next year and Old Dominion in 2028.
