Nashville SC has turned the 2026 season into a procession. At 16-2-4 for 52 points, they lead the Supporters’ Shield race by nine and have lost twice all year — a record no other club is close to.
Behind that, the league is compressed to an almost absurd degree. Sixteen of the 30 clubs sit within eight points of each other.

Shaded rows mark the current playoff cut line. Nine clubs from each conference reach the postseason under the current format.
Nashville Is Running Away With It
Two losses in 22 matches is the kind of season that ends with a trophy. Nashville’s 52 points put them nine clear of Vancouver, the best team in the West, and ten ahead of Inter Miami in their own conference.
The Supporters’ Shield goes to the club with the most regular-season points regardless of conference, and at this margin it is Nashville’s to lose. No other side has fewer than four defeats.
The Compression Below
What makes the rest of the table remarkable is how little separates almost everyone. From Chicago and New England at 37 points down to Philadelphia and Austin at 24, that’s 20 clubs inside 13 points.
Colorado is the oddity in there: 10 wins and 11 losses with a single draw all season, the most decisive team in the league by a distance. Toronto and DC United are the opposite, each with ten draws.
At the bottom, Sporting Kansas City at 4-15-3 is adrift, nine points from safety with the season’s worst record by some margin.
The Bottom Line
Nashville SC leads MLS with 52 points from a 16-2-4 record and holds a nine-point cushion in the Supporters’ Shield race. Vancouver tops the Western Conference at 43 points, Inter Miami is second in the East at 42. Twenty clubs sit within 13 points of each other below the top three, which is why the playoff cut line moves almost every week.
