Every NFL team’s initial 53-man roster for the 2026 season, in one place. The standard shape of a 53: two or three quarterbacks, eight or nine offensive linemen, five to seven receivers, and roughly a 25-28 split between offense and defense with three specialists. Deviations are tells — a team keeping four running backs or ten linemen is telling you something about its identity or its injury situation.

Expect 60-80 league-wide roster moves in the week after cutdown — claims, IR stashes, and re-signings churn the bottom five spots on most teams.
Position counts are strategy
Count each team’s linemen, backs, and corners against the standard shape — the outliers reveal scheme and injury truths.
Practice squads are the shadow roster
The 16-man squads formed Monday effectively extend each roster to 69; two elevations per week make them gameday-relevant.
What to Watch After the 53s Post
Three September patterns repeat every year. First, the IR stash: teams place a borderline player on injured reserve after cutdown so he doesn’t count against the 53, targeting a midseason return. Second, the claim-and-cut: a team claims a player Monday, then cuts someone else Tuesday, restarting the cycle. Third, the veteran wait: unsigned vested veterans — released free agents — often sit until after Week 1, when signing them no longer guarantees a full season’s salary. The 53s below are snapshots; the September roster is a river.
