Why Turnover Margin Matters

Turnover margin is takeaways (interceptions and fumbles recovered from the opponent) minus giveaways. It is one of the strongest single predictors of winning a game, because each turnover both ends a drive and hands the other team field position. It also tends to swing from year to year, so a big early margin is worth watching but not assuming.
