The Shamrock Series is a Notre Dame home game played somewhere other than Notre Dame Stadium: an NFL stadium, a ballpark or a dome in a city full of alumni, with a one off uniform and a week of events around it. It began in 2009 at the Alamodome, Notre Dame has never lost one (12 and 0), and the 13th edition is Sunday night, September 6, 2026, against Wisconsin at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, the first college game at Lambeau since 2016 and the first Notre Dame game ever there.

No game in 2017, 2019, 2020 (the Wisconsin game at Lambeau was canceled by the pandemic and rescheduled for 2026), 2023 or 2025. The 2013 win over Arizona State was vacated in the NCAA academic case but the game was played and won.
Why Notre Dame Does This
Notre Dame is an independent with a national alumni base and no conference road trips to guarantee a visit to New York, Texas or Las Vegas. Taking one home game a year on the road puts the program in front of donors and recruits in a new market, keeps the NBC broadcast in a big venue, and lets the school sell a uniform. The trade is one fewer game at Notre Dame Stadium, which is why the opponent is usually a team the Irish expect to beat; the average margin of victory across the 12 games is 22 points and the closest was the 3 point win over Boston College in the rain at Fenway.
Lambeau Field
Lambeau has hosted two college games in its history: St. Norbert against Fordham in 1983 and Wisconsin’s 16 to 14 win over LSU in 2016. The stadium is named for Curly Lambeau, who played at Notre Dame in 1918 before founding the Packers, which is the connection Notre Dame used to justify playing a home game in Wisconsin’s home state. The Badgers won the 2016 game there and are the only Shamrock Series opponent to get a second try. Kickoff, TV and the full preview are on Wisconsin vs. Notre Dame; the live score is on Notre Dame football score.
The Bottom Line
The Shamrock Series is Notre Dame’s traveling home game, played 12 times since 2009 in eight cities without a loss. Wisconsin at Lambeau Field on September 6, 2026 is the 13th, delayed six years by the pandemic, and the first college game at Lambeau in a decade. This page adds the result Sunday night.
