A Maryland Opener
Towson is in Towson, Maryland, roughly 30 miles north of Annapolis. Both programs recruit the Baltimore-Washington corridor, which gives the game a regional flavour despite the division gap.
Towson also plays at South Carolina the following weekend, so this is the first of two straight games against FBS opposition.
Navy’s option offence is unlike anything else most opponents see, and week one is the hardest time to prepare for it — there is no current film, and the fundamentals of defending it are not something a team can install in a few days.
That is a persistent structural advantage for the Midshipmen in openers.
Not to Be Confused With CBS
CBS Sports Network is a separate cable channel from CBS, and it is not available over the air. If you’re looking for this game on the same channel as Boise State at Oregon, you won’t find it.
Fubo, YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV and DirecTV Stream all carry CBSSN. Paramount+ does not reliably include CBS Sports Network live, so don’t count on it.
Prediction and Odds
Line: Navy heavily favored; many books do not post FBS vs. FCS lines until game day.
Navy is coming off a school record tying 11-2 season and returns 12 starters. Towson is a CAA program that has met the Mids once before, a 41-13 Navy win in 2008. The triple option against an FCS defense that has not seen it in years usually ends the way you expect.
