Five things the list shows
- The United States is going for a fifth straight title. They have won 2010, 2014, 2018 and 2022, and are chasing a 12th overall in Berlin.
- Only four nations have ever won it. In 19 editions across 73 years, no other country has lifted the trophy.
- The Soviet Union owned the middle era. Six titles between 1959 and 1983, including four in a row from 1959 to 1971.
- 1983 is the only final the United States has lost. The Soviet Union won it 84-82, the closest title game in the tournament’s history.
- The 1953 champion did not win every game. The early format was a round robin, and the United States took the inaugural title despite losing to Brazil in the final round.
The current streak
The United States has not lost a World Cup game since the 2006 semifinal against Russia, a run of 32 straight wins. The closest call in that streak came on September 6, 2026, when Italy pushed them to 55-52 in Berlin.
