What Is Not On Today
Two things people go looking for on Labor Day and will not find.
No NFL. Week 1 does not start until Wednesday, September 9, when the Patriots visit the Seahawks at 8:20 p.m. on NBC in a Super Bowl LX rematch. There is only one Thursday game this week because Amazon’s Thursday package does not begin until Week 2.
No WNBA. The league is paused for the FIBA World Cup and does not resume until September 17, which is why so many of its stars are in Berlin instead.
The Bottom Line
Labor Day is a baseball afternoon and a tennis night. Eleven MLB games, nine of them finished before the one national baseball window at 8:10 on NBC. The US Open fourth round runs all day on ESPN before flipping to ESPN2 at seven for Gauff. Team USA plays at 2:45 on TNT, and college football gets the last word with SMU at Florida State at 7:30.
