The Chicago White Sox and Houston Astros meet in a best of three American League Wild Card Series at Daikin Park, starting Tuesday, September 29, at 5 p.m. ET, with every game on NBC, NBCSN or Peacock. The Astros won the AL West on the final day of the regular season when Texas lost 6 to 4 at Minnesota, then beat the Athletics minutes later to finish 81 and 81. They are the first team to win a division with a non winning record in a 162 game season, and they hold the No. 3 seed and home field. The White Sox are the No. 6 seed after Cleveland clinched the AL Central on Saturday. The winner plays the No. 2 Cleveland Guardians in the Division Series, which begins the weekend of October 3.

How the Series Works
The Wild Card Series is best of three, and the higher seed hosts every game, so the whole series is played at Daikin Park. The first team to win two games advances.
How They Got Here
Chicago and Cleveland both clinched playoff berths on Thursday, September 24, and the Guardians took the division on Saturday when they won at Kansas City and the White Sox lost to Colorado. Houston and Texas entered the final day tied atop the AL West, with the Astros holding the tiebreaker.
Postseason History
The teams met in the 2005 World Series, which the White Sox swept for their first championship since 1917, and again in the 2021 ALDS, which Houston won 3 games to 1.
