Where the Coaches Split From the AP

The coaches keep Penn State (No. 22) and Michigan (No. 24) ranked, while the AP dropped both out of its top 25 this week. The coaches also flip two spots near the top, with Indiana at No. 5 and Ohio State at No. 6, the reverse of the AP. Both polls have Florida at No. 8, the Gators’ highest AP ranking since 2020, ahead of a Week 5 trip to Missouri.

How the Coaches Poll Works

The poll is voted on by FBS head coaches, with 25 points for a first place vote down to one point for 25th. It is released each Sunday after the weekend’s games, usually an hour before the AP poll, and unlike the AP poll it has no role in the College Football Playoff, which uses its own selection committee rankings beginning in November.
