The Week in One Line

LSU at Ole Miss is the game everything else is scheduled around. Lane Kiffin spent five seasons in Oxford, took the Rebels to their first playoff semifinal and left for LSU in January; Pete Golding, his former defensive coordinator, now runs the program Kiffin built, with most of the roster Kiffin recruited. Both teams are unbeaten. Both quarterbacks are transfers playing the best football of their careers, Sam Leavitt for LSU and Trinidad Chambliss for Ole Miss. The market has it inside a field goal.

Texas plays its first game as the No. 1 team after rallying from 23-3 down in the fourth quarter to beat Ohio State 24-23 in Austin, a result that cost the Buckeyes the top ranking and dropped them to sixth. Ohio State hosts Kent State at noon; Texas hosts UTSA in a streaming only window at 8 p.m.

The oddity of the weekend is at 3:30, where Louisville is favored over SMU despite sitting seven spots lower in the AP poll, and at 7:30 in Charlotte, where West Virginia is a double digit favorite over a ranked Virginia team.
