The Game of the Week: Ohio State at Texas

No. 1 Ohio State plays at Texas on Saturday, September 12 at 7:30 p.m. ET, the third meeting between these teams in three seasons and the one that shapes the whole first month. Ohio State won the 2024 playoff semifinal and then the 2025 opener in Columbus 14 to 7. Texas opened this season with a 59 to 7 win over Texas State in which Arch Manning threw for 305 yards and four touchdowns; Ohio State beat Ball State 56 to 3 behind Julian Sayin’s 320 yards and three scores. Manning’s Heisman case and Texas’ playoff position both run through it. His numbers are on Arch Manning stats, the market is on Heisman odds.

The Rest of the Marquee Slate

Oklahoma at Michigan. The Sooners opened 51 to 0 over UTEP; Michigan needed a disputed second on the clock and a 47 yard Hail Mary to beat Western Michigan 13 to 12. Kyle Whittingham’s second game is a top 15 road team walking into a rattled Big House. What happened last week is on the Michigan Hail Mary explained.

LSU vs. Louisiana Tech. Lane Kiffin’s home follow up to a 51 to 10 dismantling of Clemson, Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET. The debut is on Lane Kiffin’s LSU debut.
