The first top five matchup of the 2026 season lands Saturday night in Austin, where No. 1 Ohio State visits No. 4 Texas on ABC at 7:30 p.m. ET. Ohio State has won the last two meetings. Texas gets this one at home, and the winner walks away with the early advantage in the College Football Playoff race.

The Five Games That Matter Most
No. 1 Ohio State at No. 4 Texas, 7:30 p.m., ABC. Two teams with real national title paths, meeting in Austin for the third straight season. Ohio State won the first two. A Texas win reshapes the Big Ten and SEC playoff math in one night.
No. 11 Oklahoma at Michigan, noon, FOX. Michigan survived Western Michigan by a point in Week 1 and dropped out of the AP Top 25 because of it. Oklahoma buried UTEP 51 to 0. The noon window belongs to this one.
Arizona State at No. 10 Texas A&M, noon, ABC. First power conference test for both. Texas A&M rolled Missouri State, Arizona State beat Morgan State 70 to 7, and neither has been pushed yet.
Mississippi State at Minnesota, 3:30 p.m., CBS. Minnesota hosts an SEC team for the first time in 65 years. Mississippi State quarterback Kamario Taylor put up 413 total yards and five touchdowns in the opener.
No. 23 Missouri at Kansas, Friday, 8 p.m., FOX. The Border War in prime time, and it is not scheduled again until 2031.
How to Watch Without Cable
Most of Saturday’s slate lives on four services. ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU and SEC Network all come with a Fubo, YouTube TV, Hulu Live or DirecTV Stream subscription. FOX, FS1 and Big Ten Network are on the same packages. CBS and CBS Sports Network stream through Paramount+ with Showtime. NBC games run on Peacock.
ESPN+ is a separate subscription and carries a large share of the Group of Five and FCS slate, including most of the noon and early afternoon games above. SECN+ and ACCNX are digital overflow channels that require a cable or streaming login rather than a standalone purchase. MW+ is the Mountain West’s own streaming service.
The Bottom Line
Saturday, September 12 is the first weekend of the season with real stakes at the top.
